Phantasy Star Online 2 Vita Beta Title Screen

Let’s face it; the original Phantasy Star Online is outdated. It’s still a great game, don’t get me wrong. But, with the nostalgia goggles off, it’s the video game equivalent of spoiled milk: once fantastic, but now just clunky, lumpy, messy, and a bit odd.

So, with that in mind, Sega brought out the big guns with Phantasy Star Online 2. It was released in Japan late last year. Long story short, the game is good. It fixes plenty of issues from the original PSO, it takes a page out of various contemporary action RPGs to update things a bit, and it even adds some interesting ideas to boot. And it’s free to play.

But that’s the PC version. How about this Vita beta? How does it stack up? What does it foretell about the official release? Will it be the PS Vita’s killer app? Well, let’s dive right in and see.

Omerta1

Have you ever wanted to run your own criminal empire? Of course you have. Omerta – City of Gangsters, previously announced for Windows PC, will be gracing your Xbox 360 console in the fall of 2012. Wondering what Omerta – City of Gangsters actually is? Think a mafioso version of Sim City.

As a newly arrived immigrant in the 1920′s, players will work their way up the criminal ladder in Atlantic City, NJ. First, you’ll recruit your own gang — pale in comparison to the Don’s that have already established themselves. But as your gang grows and you muscle your way into other territories, your influence will spread with the ultimate goal of running the city.

Omerta – City of Gangsters is a turn-based strategy game where you manage your businesses and gang members in real-time. Your thugs will go on missions ranging from simple HQ raids and bank robberies, to assassinations and prison breaks, which aren’t exactly legal ways to make a living. But worry not, as having a little extra cheddar in your pocket can ensure that bribes reach the right people who gladly turn a blind eye.

The most amazing aspect of Omerta – City of Gangsters, though, is the multiple ways to finish missions. Sneaking around and using cover to avoid suspicion can be just as critical (and deadly) as storming into a fight using a hail of bullets. Being developed by Haemimont Games and Published by Kalypso media, the tandem that brought you the hit installments Tropico 3 and 4Omerta – City of Gangsters looks interesting and should offer hours of gameplay.

Ubisoft have unveiled details on what gamers can expect from the PC release of Ghost Recon Future Solider.

HD motion blur in action

Basically the huge difference is the visuals of the game. On the PC you can expect a DX11 renderer and “Hi-Quality Assest” along with new post-process effects, multi-monitor support and TriDef stereoscopic support. DX11 will bring things like
tessellation on character models, improved lighting with global illumination and volumetric fog.

If that wasn’t enough they’re also including support for their Uplay friends system along with an improved invitation system for playing with friends.

You’ll be able to place Ghost Recon Future Soldier from June 15th on the PC and May 22nd for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

A title I absolutely loved on the Xbox 360 has now got a firm release date for a PC release and price. If you want to see what Alan Wake is all about you’ll be able to play it from February 16th.

“We’ve done our best to do justice to the PC version and do things the way they should be done for PC. The PC version looks absolutely beautiful. We’re bringing the game to life in a whole new way,” says Markus Mäki, CTO at Remedy.

The PC version of Alan Wake will also include  The Signal and The Writer DLC and can be yours for $29.99 from Steam or $34.99 for the Limited Collectors Edition. It’s also been announced that a retail boxed version of Alan Wake will also be available at a later date as well as the option to purchase from EA’s Origin.
