Gaming is a strange beast; players have historically been hardcore or casual, lending enormous amounts of time to their favorite console(s) or simply playing their favorite annual release year after year. Only recently have a new demographic of game players emerged, one that encompasses us all, from the hardest of the hardcore to … well, people who sit on the toilet a lot. Yes, I’m talking about the mobile gamers. The ones who spend only a few minutes a day flinging birds at pigs and the ones who has sunk dozens and dozens of hours across multiple titles. The biggest challenge facing gamers has been the implementation of games. There are only so many ideas that cover “touch the screen here. Drag it here. Touch it again,” gameplay.
Not anymore.
At E3 inLos Angeles, PowerA has unveiled their new mobile gaming controller called MOGA. It’s a gaming controller. For your phone or tablet. And it looks glorious. I know, I know, we’re supposed to be unbiased when delivering news to you wonderful readers, but IT’S A GAMING CONTROLLER. FOR YOUR PHONE OR TABLET. This is a total game changer. OK, I’m sorry for that pun, but with developers like Atari, Sega, Bandai Namco, Gameloft, and Machine Works Entertainment already on board and developing games that are compatible with MOGA, how can we not get excited?
The MOGA Pivot App will allow you to manage each game that uses the controller and will be coming to Google Play. It’s got dual analog sticks, four face buttons, and two trigger buttons, an obvious nod to developers that shooters can, and should, be played with it. The MOGA will also allow you to secure your phone to it, essentially turning it into a handheld console akin to a PS Vita or Nintendo DS. It connects via Bluetooth and with two AAA batteries gives up to 24 hours of gameplay.
We told you it sounded amazing!
The MOGA is planned to release later this year and, for those looking for a larger controller that looks and feels similar to those for your current console, the MOGA Pro will also be available.
