On January 21st, a new .hack// movie will be released in Japan! So what does this mean for gamers? Well with the release of the movie, is the potential release of a new .hack// game. An interview with CyberConnect2′s CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama revealed that there is indeed a plan to release a game that is relative to the movie. Matsuyama wouldn’t reveal what platform the game will be on, but I think it’s safe to assume it will be on PS3, if not a PS3 exclusive. There are even rumors of a dvd/game hybrid being released for the PS3.

I’m not sure about anyone else, but I know that I personally have been wanting another .hack// game ever since I finished .hack// G.U. Redemption. However I waited so long that I gave up any thoughts of another game ever coming out and pushed the game to the back of my mind. (Keep in mind this is not including .hack//LINK which will probably never see an English release.) Well, I was definitely surprised, and anxious, when I got the news that not only is a movie being released, but a game as well. I don’t know too much about what the game will entail, but honestly all that matters is that it’s a new addition to the .hack// series.

What I do know is that the scripts of the game and the movie were made simultaneously, and the game is set to take place one year after the movie, which is 2025. The game features a character similar looking to Haseo from G.U., but whether it’s actually him or just a look a like has yet to be determined. More details of the game should be released when the movie is on January 21st, but until then CC2 has a nice teaser site for you to look at and constantly refresh hoping eventually something will change. For now, here are the only two screenshots above yet to be released to give our brains a tease.

Now while some of these categories didn’t go as I would have liked *cough*Gears3forbestxboxgame*cough* I’m sure plenty of you would disagree with me. To see all the nominees that these winners beat out, you can go here.

Now the only other good reason to watch the VGAs is for the game premier trailers. For me, the most exciting of these trailers happened to be for the game The Last Of Us. The game was being very mysterious with it’s ant controlled by a fungus trailer, but this one managed to give more detail, and make me even more excited for the game.

Other premiers included Hitman Absolution, Mass Effect 3, Bioshock Infinite, and more that can be viewed here.

So there’s your VGA summary without having to waste two hours!

8-Bit Christmas Music

Niki Robbers —  December 10, 2011 — Leave a comment

I’ve never been one for Christmas Music. Generally when I walk into a store that’s playing Christmas music before December has even started, I want to flee out the door screaming with my fingers in my ears. The only Christmas music I can tolerate are generally parodies that are only enjoyable to listen to because of their amusing lyrics.

Rush Coil has decided to put his own spin on Christmas music, and making Christmas music not only bearable, but enjoyable. He’s compiled a 12 track album of 8-bit Christmas songs that should bring joy to any gamer and for a cheap price. The songs he decided to digitize include popular songs such as Silent Night, Deck the Halls, Joy to the World. Surprisingly, there is no Jingle Bells on there, but with that being one of the most played songs in stores on Christmas, I can’t say I’m disappointed.

The digital album is only three bucks, and there’s an even better way to get the album. Right now if you pre-order the Indie Royal Xmas Bundle you’ll get Rush Coil’s 8-Bit Christmas bundle along with it. You can actually listen to every song on Rush Coil’s site so you know for sure if you’re interested or not.

xboxupdate

It’s December 6th, so where’s the new Xbox 360 dashboard? While not everyone is actually thrilled at the prospect of a new Xbox update, it was scheduled to arrive today nonetheless. And lo and behold, it’s not here.

At 7am Pacific time this morning Major Nelson tweeted that “the timing for Xbox 360 dashboard update has been slightly delayed. I’ll have a status update later today.” When will it come available? Not a frickin’ clue. Why did it get delayed? As far as I can tell, all we can get is that it’s “Bugs”. Major Nelson is pretty vague in his tweets, but you can still attempt to follow them to get an idea.

For now Major Nelson’s tweets include ones such as:

“We are still working to get the release out. Stay tuned, we’ll have an update this afternoon (PT) on when it will begin rolling out.”

“I’ll share additional details when I have more to share. Until then, thanks for you patience.”

“Thanks again for your patience. I won’t have additional details until later today. The moment I have new information, I’ll share it w/ you”

All you can do for now is sit around and wait, and enjoy the old Xbox dashboard while you can.

The Indie Gala

Niki Robbers —  December 6, 2011 — Leave a comment

A new indie bundle type site has hit the internet. There’s The Humble Bundle, IndieRoyale, and now The Indie Gala has come to let you get fun indie games at your price!

The rules are exactly as the same for The Humble Bundle. Same make your own price, same donations going to Child Play and the developers, and same experience of getting lots of games for a little price. Actually, this bundle seems to offer even more than Humble Bundle, without having to pay more than the “average” like Humble Bundle does.

For this Indie Gala you’ll get seven games to add to your Steam. That’s another plus, every game in this bundle registers on Steam. You get Inmomentum, Hacker Evolution: Duality, Saira, Your Doodles are Bugged!, and Zombie Shooter 2. So where are the other two games to equal seven? If you order this bundle within the first two days (doesn’t that sound like a television ad?) then you’ll also get Zombie Shooter 1 and Hacker Evoltion: Untold.

So as always, head on over, don’t be TOO cheap, and get some awesome games while donating to a cause (if you feel like it!).
